🛡️ Trezor Wallet Setup Guide: Maximum Security 🛡️
⚠️ **CRITICAL WARNING:** Always verify you are on the **official Trezor website** or using the **official Trezor Suite desktop app**. Scammers create identical, fake websites (phishing).
1. Preparation and Inspection
Before connecting your device, perform a physical inspection of the packaging.
- Ensure the **security seals** on the box are **intact**.
- Gather the required materials: Trezor device, USB cable, and the blank **Recovery Seed Card**.
- Find a **private, secure location** where you can write down your seed phrase without being observed.
2. Connect and Install Trezor Suite
- Navigate to the **official setup page**: Type
https://suite.trezor.io/web/
directly into your browser.
- Connect your Trezor to your computer using the USB cable.
- **Download and install the Trezor Suite desktop application** for the best security and user experience. Launch the application.
3. Install the Latest Firmware
The firmware is the operating system of your hardware wallet. It must be up-to-date.
- The Trezor Suite will prompt you: "Install latest firmware." Click the button.
- Verify the firmware version displayed on the **Trezor screen** matches the version shown in the **Trezor Suite**.
- **Confirm the installation** by pressing the button(s) on your physical Trezor device. **DO NOT** unplug the device during this process.
4. The Crucial Step: Recovery Seed Backup
Your **Recovery Seed** (24 words, typically) is the *only* backup of your funds.
- In Trezor Suite, select **"Create new wallet"** and then **"Standard Setup."**
- Click **"Start Backup."** The 24-word sequence will be displayed **ONLY on the Trezor device screen.**
- **Write down all 24 words** on the provided card **exactly** in the correct order. Check your spelling twice!
- The Suite will perform a **verification step** where you re-enter specific words (e.g., word 12 and 18) using the on-screen scrambled keypad.
- **Store the Recovery Seed Card** in a safe, offline location (e.g., a home safe, bank safe deposit box).
🔥 **NEVER DIGITIZE THE SEED.** Do not take a photo, screenshot, or store it in a cloud document.
5. Set Your PIN
The PIN protects your device from physical theft.
- Trezor Suite will ask you to **Set a PIN** (4 to 9 digits recommended).
- A **scrambled grid of numbers** will appear on your **Trezor device screen**.
- A blank grid of dots will appear on your **computer screen**.
- **Match the position:** Click the dots on the computer screen that correspond to the position of the numbers on the device screen to enter your chosen PIN.
- Repeat the process to **confirm the PIN**. The layout will be scrambled again.
6. Name the Device and Finalize
Personalize your Trezor for easy recognition.
- Enter a name (e.g., "Trezor Main BTC"). This appears on the device and in the Suite.
- You can now **add accounts** (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) within the Trezor Suite.
- **Always unplug** your Trezor when you are done with a transaction.
